His Majesty King Abdullah II Visits Zarqa Industrial City Project, Directs Acceleration of Implementation
His Majesty King Abdullah II visited on Tuesday the Zarqa Industrial City project, the first green and environmentally friendly industrial city in Jordan, directing the government to expedite the implementation of all phases of the project.
During the visit, held ahead of a communication meeting, His Majesty underscored the importance of promoting the industrial city both locally and internationally, and of developing clear operational plans for investor services to enhance the city’s competitiveness.
During a tour of the project, attended by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, His Majesty was briefed by Minister of Investment Dr. Tareq Abu Ghazaleh on the role of development and industrial zones in driving economic growth. The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the business environment and enabling investment.
He noted that the Kingdom’s development zones, which number 20, are witnessing sustained growth in investment volumes, reaching approximately JOD 6.49 billion. These zones host 1,670 active investments and provide around 128,000 job opportunities.
For his part, Director General of the Jordan Industrial Estates Company, Oday Obaidat, outlined the three phases of the Zarqa Industrial City project. He explained that the first phase spans 1,386 dunums out of a total area of 2,475 dunums, with an investment cost of JOD 35 million. The phase includes developed plots and ready-built industrial facilities covering an area of 21,000 square meters.
Obaidat added that preliminary studies for the project indicate its potential to attract approximately 217 industrial investments, generating around 8,500 job opportunities.
